So the latest medical doctor had me do two tests. I got the results today.
The first test was an iodine loading test. I took 50mg of Iodoral (a combination of Iodine/Iodide), and then had to put all my urine from the following 24 hours into a container. The next morning I sent a sample to a lab. The test results showed that I excreted 75% of the iodine. Ideally, you are supposed to excrete all of it. So I have a mild iodine deficiency and will take 12.5mg of supplemental iodine daily. I have read that iodine deficiency can be related to hair loss and PCOS. So you may want to look into it for yourself.
The second test was an Adrenal Stress Index test. Over four periods in a day I took saliva samples. Those went to a lab the following morning. it should my progesterone was low, and my cortisol rhythm was out of whack; depressed in the morning, normal between 11:00 and noon, elevated between 4:00 and 5:00, and elevated between 10:00-midnight.
So she is putting me on licorice in the morning, and some herbs in the evening. We'll see if this helps hair at all!

I find it interesting that you actually found a doctor who would do a proper test on you. I like the vitamin solutions, much better than meds,
Good luck keep us posted. Also, are you taking photos of the before and afters? This is really a great way to gauge our hair loss battle.

Hi Tracy,
What kind of salt are you using? Do you use Celtic Sea Salt? Celtic sea salt is good for the adrenals. You can ask you doctor if you can incorporate it as well to help balance you out. I believe that the adrenals control the amount of cortisol (which can also cause hair loss). There are a lot of minerals in Celtic sea salt as well.

Thanks for the tip Angela! I do not use a lot of salt. But when I do, I do use sea salt, but not celtic sea salt. I guess I have never gotten it since it is pretty expensive. I will see if I can contact the doc about incorporating it!

There is definitely a difference between sea salt and Celtic Sea Salt or even Himalayan Pink salt. Regular sea salt is really no different than regular table salt. Even though the Celtic sea salt is more expensive, you don't have to use very much. It has a much different taste than regular sea salt or table salt. Regular sea salt has a much harsher taste. They also sell the Celtic in a crushed version instead of whole granules which you would have to crush yourself.

Hi Kawana! Yes it is nice to find doctors that encourage more natural solutions. If you might want these tests done, you can look into them: http://www.doctorsdata.com/test_info.asp?id=118
