Hey all,

This is preliminary as I haven't been using it for long, but coconut seems to do wonders for hair loss. I have used it 2x, and each time there is very little hair that I lose in the shower. And my hair is so soft and nice to touch, and shiney! I've also noticed that my red undertones have come out more after using it only a couple times!! The other positive is that I do have a whole bunch of new hair growth that makes me look like perma-bedhead, and the coconut oil help tame those suckers down.

I just buy some good quality coconut oil from the health food store, and put it in my scalp. Because my hair is so dry, I've been putting it through the entire shaft.

My roommate has commented on how healthy my hair looks afterwards, and she thinks thicker as well, but I'm not so sure.

Just note that if you try this, don't use gels or foams or minoxidil after you wash it out. When I did, my hair became hard and straw like so I had to wash it out again! You can put it on once it has dried.

Supposedly coconut oil can help with hair loss and regrowth, seems that most coconut experts (if that's what they actually are) say to use it 2-3x/wk. Apparently can also help with white hairs.

Anyways, just wanted to give you another possibility to add to your already prolonged hair care routine :p I strongly do suggest that you try it! If you do, post here and tell me how it went!

Anyone else have experience with coconut oil?

Cheers

Hi,
Are you still using the coconut oil? Apparently the hair-saving action is from the lauric acid, which kills the bacteria that inflames the hair follicles. Right now I am using emu oil and have had excellent improvement in scalp comfort (no more burning and itching), but I am thinking of layering coconut oil on top to see if I get even more improvement. Also read that you should use virgin coconut oil if possible.

Hi!

What brand of Emu oil are you using? Does it smell? I have been wanting to try that as well. Right now I use grape seed oil with a little tea tree on my scalp to relieve the dryness and itching (for some reason my scalp has been itching a lot lately). I also read that grape seed oil has DHT blocking properties. I am not sure if AA is my problem - but I figured it can't hurt.

I have heard wonderful things about Emu oil and coconut oil (I have to give the coconut oil a try).

Thanks,

Luciana

Hi Luciana,
Yes I read that grapeseed oil is good too :) and so are grapeseed extract supplements. Right now I am using a sample of Skin Biology Emu Oil for Hair; it doesn't smell very much and you only need a few drops to cover the scalp. It has added antioxidants and saw palmetto oil. It's expensive but it made my scalp feel a lot better so I decided to go ahead and order a regular-sized bottle this weekend; based on the amount I have needed each night I think 1 bottle should last me a few months. I haven't visited the health food store yet but coconut oil is next on my list for the bacteria-killing properties :) Let me know if you try the emu oil!

Dolly,
I am getting coconut oil tomorrow from a whole food store. I want to use it to oil my scalp after washing to soften my hair. Do you think we have a bacteria problem? How old are you? I am 33 and have been dealing with hl for a little over a year.

Coconut oil is great. Did you try just eating a tablespoon a day instead of putting it on your scalp? It's the only oil that bypasses the digestive track, that's why it's so good for those who are having digestion issues.
