UGH! If I had a strand of hair for every time I've heard this remark since my HL began I wouldn't need this site!!

Seriously.....

I love my topper because no one ever comments about my thin hair anymore. Now I just get nice comments like " I like your hair like that"

I agree!

I think that most people who say it are trying to be comforting, and just don't know how to effectively do so. I know tht's the issue with a lot of the people who've said it to me.

But then there are those few who just think you're "overreacting." Like my mother. Awesome.

LOL, they say that until it happens to THEM! Although there are some that use that statement "It's just hair" as a way to try to move forward in their hair loss. It doesn't work all the time though.
Next time someone says that, ask if they know what the purpose of hair is for. Most of us think it is just a matter of physical appeal, but hair does serve a purpose beyond looking good.

That comment is usually said by the person with tons and tons of hair they couldn't possibly know what to do with it all.

It's just hair! LOL!

So everyone in my family knows about my hair loss, but we just don't "talk" about it. I forget how this conversation got started, but one day my sister in law says that "It would be probably the worse thing ever for a woman to loose her hair"

Humm Ya think?:p

This is one I'm sick of: "But you're still so pretty."

Next time I hear that, I'm going to say, "Oh, thank you so much. Now, bite my ass!" That's like saying, "You have such a pretty face -- if only you'd lose a little weight." Puh-lease. It is NOT supportive.

That is the most annoying thing people can ever say to you. Personally, I don't even mind when they eye my scalp, I know it's shiny. But when they say that to me, they're being condescending and patronizing. Most people like being politically correct about everything else but this.
My standard line is "No, it's not. We'll talk it not being important when you start loosing your hair".

"It's just hair" is also a way to make our personal loss impersonal. It isn't "just hair" it is "my hair" or "your hair".

I didn't check to see if I already said that in a former post on this thread...if I did, forgive me. LOL :D
