 Ok, weird question, but background first. Currently, I am 29 ( next month) and have had started having gray hair since I was 18 which runs in my family. My grandmother said she started with gray hair when she was 16. When I was 23, I started dying it because it was getting to be alot. I only dyed it 4 times a year ( what can I say, I am lazy). I lost a significant amount of hair; so much so that I shaved it. Before shaving it, my dermatologist told me that I had telogen effluvium and said "don't worry, it will grow back" So it's been 2 weeks since I have shaved- I didn't get a shiny bald shave, more like a 5 o'clock shadow shave. I do notice some hair regrowth, but I am noticing ALOT of gray hair- which is to be expected. It's just the gray hair is growing faster than the brown hair. I have a peach fuzzy head and its all gray. Does gray hair grow faster? Another weird component. I am not getting hair regrowth anywhere else on my body, including my legs. I've never had gray leg hair. Anyway, I'm rambling because I am not sure what I should be asking. Are there any hair loss diagnosis related to premature gray hair? Is it weird that my gray is growing faster than my brown hair?

I don't think the gray hair is an issue. I have seen a lots of people with lovely heads of gray hair. Any hair is good hair in my book!

I am 46 (yikes) and have been getting gray hairs for about 5 years now. None of the women in my family, both sides, starting going gray till they were older than that - and none of them had unusual hair loss, either. What I find with the grays (which, on me, are actually white) is that they are not the ones to fall out. They seem to have a firm grip on my scalp! Hmmm...maybe a reason to wish for more grays!!!

Actually, my gray hairs have good roots and my bio non-gray hair has invisible roots, so I have to agree. Gray is good!

Are your hairs grey or white? What is the texture of them? I have grey hair but its a different texture and color than my white hair. I have a lot of white hair (really thick and hard to pluck) in my eyebrows too.

Wow Angela, Glad you asked that because I never thought about the difference between gray and white. Before my hair loss, my gray hair was more course. The gray hair growing now seems more fine ( although it's still really short), but it does seem heathier than the brown hair because it is growing faster. It's funny, I rarely have gray eyebrow hair, but the ratio of gray to brown on my head is probably one to one. Thanks for listening everyone. I feel like I am being a little obsessive :>

I think grey is stronger than normal pigmented hair. ALL hair is good!

Hi Guys, i'm another grey/white haired girl and i have to dye my hair quite freqeuntly. I agree that having grey hair and hair loss there is no correlation, i've been dying my hair for 13yrs and it has been in the last 4 yrs that i've realised i have hair loss and i too see lots of ladies with thick wads of grey hair.
