Is this common? I remember my last shedding phase was painful. When I had my hair styled, it hurt to have her squeeze the water out of my hair or to use the towel to dry it further.

This time it doesn't it, it ITCHES! I feel like I have bugs running all over my head. Add to that the irritating little hairs that land on the nape of my neck when they fall out of my head that tickle and itch, and ARGH!! I'm going positively MAD!!!

Is anyone else experiencing this?

I definitely find that my shedding is heaviest when I have scalp pain and/or that horrible crawling sensation. I've been taking 25 mg of spiro for 8 months now. I don't know if it's helping my hair -such a low dose - but those sensations are definitely less frequent since I've been taking it. It may just be a coincidence, because I've never read that anyone found this same correlation.

I've had that too. Sometimes I get itchy as the hair is coming in too, and I have to feel my scalp to see if its hairs coming in or if I'm starting to lose hair again. So far, where ever I itch, if I feel around there are these little prickly hairs sticking through. I would worry that my hair was coming out if I didn't feel that.
I hate that bug feeling!

Well, there's definitely nothing new coming in, I can tell you that. It's all falling. * cries *

Really bothering me today.

I have itchy scalp too .. and when I scratch, it burns. This started a few weeks after my first shed and it gets worse every time my shed increases. I also find my tinnitus kicks up a notch during a bad shed. I read somewhere that this is more common with estrogen related hair loss. My derm calls it the 'seven year itch' and said she has some clients that have it so bad, they have to pull the car over to the side of the road ! Seven years ??!! I'm going to the doctor today to ask to have my estrogen increased and to be put on spiro.

What is spiro?

Spiro - spironolactone. I actually first heard about it on this site :) It sounds like lots of women have had success in at least slowing down the shedding taking it. I talked to my doctor yesterday and she agreed to put me on 200mcg a day (100mcg taken morning and evening). I've got my fingers crossed that it will help. I'm also going to start on the Nizoral 2% shampoo which is supposed to target the DHT on the outside of the scalp (I actually ordered it on-line from a Canadian pharmacy -- hope it gets here soon.)

Thanks, I'll run a search on the site to dig up some more info on it. :)
