Hello everyone, although I have dealt with hair loss for many years, this is the first time I decided to join a group to be with other people trying to deal with this terrible situation, because only the ones who have experienced this nightare would understand.
My first hair loss event happened at age 32 due to hormone changes after stopping taking birth control pills, but grew back eventually. The second major episode happened around age 45 which was found to be due to iron loss because of too much menstrual bleeding for which I ended up having an hysterectomy. I again got my hair back. I was prescribed rogaine during that time and actually have been using it on and off since then. After that I had few other hair loss episodes and my hair got thinner with each episode, but grew back. my dermatologist said that it is genetic. In 2005, I had another major hair loss episode, this time with a lot of scalp irritation. I think it was due to an allergic reaction to the hair coloring product that my hair stylist had used. My dermatologist prescribed a foam called Luxiq and I don't know if it helped or not but eventually my hair started to grow back and I had no hair problems until couple of weeks ago. First it was more shedding after washing my hair, which I thought maybe seasonal, but it has been really shedding in massive amounts during this past week and I really can't afford to lose that much everyday. I am passed menapause, so I don't think it is hormonal. I just had a physical a month ago, everything was normal. I was not stressed until the hair problem! I will be making an appointment to see my regular doctor for hormone tests or whatever.. Since I lived through many episodes of hair loss in the past, I still think this may be temporary but who knows, all I know is I am suddenly losing massive amount of hair thta I can not afford to lose. Thank you for any suggestions/comments.
