Well, I got my iron results back from the dermatologist. It was his belief that low iron would be the cause for my hair thinning.

My TIBC was a little below normal: 237 (250-450) but my serum iron and ferritin were in normal ranges 40 (10-232).

The derm is now done with me -- never gave me any other tests -- and has sent me back to my PCP, telling me that my hair loss is likely caused by taking the drug Topamax (a migraine medicine).

Pass the buck, read patient, back and forth.

I am SO tired of this!

Meanwhile, I'm still in heavy shedding, obsessed, crazed and my scalp still hurts on most days.

WHY AREN'T DOCTORS WILLING TO TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY?!

*sigh*

I dunno. After knowing I was losing my hair my doctor prescribed Topamax for migraines too. Three months later, after a shower I took a look in the mirror ... panic barely begins to describe how I felt.

If you're still taking it, Get off of it! Alopecia is a known side effect with that drug. I took it for three months thinking my incessant slight shedding was related to the TE I have, but it didn't make sense from what I understand of TE. The doc? After I gestured that I wanted to strangle him for prescribing this medication he said, "Sorry." Followed by, "You seem worse than the last time I saw you, maybe we should give you anti-depressents. How's your sleep?"
