I was curious if anyone has experienced tightening of the chest or a burning sensation in the chest on Spironolactone? I have been on it for a couple of months now and have noticed a tightening in my chest which I attributed to too much tennis or anxiety. My dosage was just upped to 100mg/day and I have noticed more chest discomfort. I can't decide if it is due to increased stress since my hair loss has gotten worse or if it is the medication. I googled it and chest burning/tightness is listed as a very rare side effect. Any thoughts?

I am an open-heart ICU recovery nurse and my advise is to talk to your doctor about this immediately, and my guess he/she will want you to get your potassium checked. High potassium levels cause irregular heartrates and affect the effectiveness of your heartbeats. This could be angina. Always air on the side of caution with these meds cause it can easily alter your electrolytes. Don't get me wrong...I am on it too.... :) When is the last time time you had it checked?

He checked it back on the June 26th and I just had another appointment on July 24th that I need to call tomorrow and get the tests results from....I am assuming potassium was one of the tests. I will say something about it tomorrow. Do you know how quickly you can go from normal potassium to too high? Is it a long term thing or can it happen fast? Thank you!!
