I was on Seasonique birth control for 4 weeks. I was tired all the time, depressed, dizzy and had no sex drive whatsoever. Then my hair started to come out. Strands of it at a time. My hair has always been thin but now I can see visible scalp in the back as well as at the temple. I checked Seasonique's website and they do not list hair loss as a side effect, but I search the web and found that other women have had hair loss with this pill. It's so upsetting to me. I don't know what to do. I have an appointment with my GYN tomorrow. I had set up the appointment before I researched the pill and from the symptoms I described his nurse suggested he may want to check my thyroid. Has anyone else had a problem with Seasonique? And if you did did your hair grow back after you stopped and how long did it take? I stopped yesterday as soon as I found at that it could be the reason. Thank you.

I am going through the exact same thing as you!!!!! I am 35 and began seasonique 3 months ago. After about a month my hair began falling out but when I asked my obgyn she said it wasn't from the seasonique so I kept taking it. It has gotten worse and now my hair is very thin and I am freaking out!!!!! I just stopped the seasonique and I am hoping that my hair will start to grow and thicken up. In the mean time I dont know what to do. My hair has always been long and thick and really pretty and now it's thin and ugly. I am sooo depressed about this and wondering if I should just chop it off? I'm sorry you are going through this too.

jenn99...the only reason I knew about the scalp hair loss side effect is from a really, really small insert that was on my prescription and the half a day I spent searching on the internet yesterday. I am going to see my GYN tomorrow and hopefully he will have some good news for me. I also plan to see my dermatologist to see if he might have some treatment that would help. I have always had thin hair so I really can't stand to lose much more. I too am sorry that you are going through this. I went to Seasonique's website again to check on their list of side effects, just to see if I missed something, well I didn't. There is NO reference to hair loss. I bought some A/G-Pro yesterday. It is a amino acid dietary supplement that is good for your hair. I also bought some organic shampoo that I'm going to try out. Shampoo in in general is pretty hard on your hair so I wanted to get something mild. I ened up getting Bert's Bees Very Volumizing Pomegrantate & Soy shampoo and conditioner. I thought about cutting my hair too, but I don't know if that would help any. I am depressed too, this is also a side effect of the pill, I will let you know what my doctors have to say. Let's both pray for a resolution to this.

Hey jebmom. How did your dr.'s visit go today? Any good news. I'm afraid if I don't get some good news soon I'm going to lose my mind. The hair loss is all I think about and just when I start to think about something else I feel some loose hair on my arm to remind me that it's all coming out. When will this stop?!!!!!!! I'm sooo sad I can't stand it!

Well my doctor doesn't seem to think the Seasonique has anything to do with my hair loss, big surprise, although I disagree. He did however order up a bunch of blood work for me: CBC, thyroid and a couple of others I can't remember. He also gave me samples and a prescription for an antidepressant because of some of my other symptoms. He did say I should see a dermatologist about the hair loss. I will be trying to make an appointment as soon as possible.

Hi. I was wondering if you have received the results of any of your blood tests and if your hair loss has stopped since stopping the seasonique? I stopped seasonique about 2 weeks ago and my hair loss has not slowed down at all so now I'm wondering if it is related. I go to the endrocrinologist tomorrow for my pre diabetes so I'm hoping he can help me. Hope you're hanging in there.

hi jenn
My blood came back normal on everything they checked. Thyroid, cbc, and such. My hair is still coming out though. I also went to see my dermatologist and and he checked a few hair under the microscope and said they were in the "resting stage". He said I should give the medicine a chance to get out of my system, take Biotin 2,500 mcg a day. It's a coenzyme that's good for healthy nails, skin and hair. He saw no reason why my hair shouldn't grow back. He also said that this could last 3 months. I really want my hormone levels checked also because I can just tell that something is out of whack. Maybe need to have my iron level checked too although my dermatologist didn't seem to think I was anemic. I am going to see another dermatologist tomorrow that is a specialist in hair loss and see what he has to say. I've been trying not to be so upset because the last thing I need is more stress. I hope I, as well as you, find a resolution to this problem.

Hi Jebmom,
Can you tell me what the A/G pro is and where you can get it. I 'd like to try it. I have used Nizol in the past for my dermatitis but it made my hair even dryer. I know use Loprox and mix it with Pantene. Does anyone have a suggestion for a good shampoo and condtioner that doesn't leave hair so dry. Thanks.

AG/Pro is a amino acid dietary supplement. You can buy it at Walmart a bottle of 180 tablets for less than $20. The dermatologist I went to today had me go get my potassium and checked and he gave me a prescription for Spironolactone. Which is used for treating hair loss (http://forum.womenshairlossproject.com/wiki/Alopecia) and acne (http://forum.womenshairlossproject.com/wiki/Acne) in women. Its funny you should mention the dry hair thing. I got a sample of Aveeno shampoo and condition in the mail yesterday and I used it this morning. When my doctor felt my hair he commented twice on how smooth and silky it felt. So I guess you could try the new Aveeno Nourish and Moisturize. He said that he doesn't think I have a hormone or iron problem and that my hair will come back. I sure hope he's right.

Hi Jebmom. Glad your dr. appt. went well. I was wondering if the dermatologist thought that the seasonique could be causing your hair loss? And if so if he thought all birth controls would cause hair loss for you. I really need to be on a birth control to control my migraines but I'm scared to death to go back on one. I'm not sure what to do? Daily migraines or a bald head is a hard choice.

Thanks for the info about the Appearex. I might just try it in addition to the biotin I already take. May it will help.

I just read this post and had to say something! I have been having the same problem with BC pills, and it does take about 3 months to stop falling out after it starts. If you are going to get a hormone panel done make sure they do it on DAY 1 of your cycle (1st day of your period). I was not told about this and did it on day 10...surprise, surprise everything looked normal. I am going back next month on day 1.
