Dov at Dov Salon in NYC is incredible (although very expensive). He is the most kind, compassionate person , gives incredible cuts on thinning hair and makes his own wigs etc. If you have the monet and live in NY it is a must.

Hi, I'm looking for a good stylist in NYC who can help me with my badly thinning hair. Can I ask what services you used? Also, how expensive was Dov? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

Hi dstar-
I went to Dov to get fitted for a topper. When I got there he cut and colored my hair and actually made it look so good I left without a hairpiece. He is such an incredible person - I can't explain it, you just have to experience it.
The haircut was 150.00. I am used to paying 30.00 so this was a shocker for me but I used my credit card and left feeling like a million bucks. I still go every so often. Just remember that your worth treating yourself every now and then. My attitute is if I have to put up with thinning hair my husband can put up with the VISA bill!!!! Go for it- you wont regret it- I promise.

Thank you, KathyLI. This was super helpful. $150 is a lot for a haircut even in NYC (I paid about $70 last time and I thought it was too much). If you don't mind, can I ask you a few more questions about all of this? When you made the appointment, did you tell the receptionist what you were coming in for? Also, did you intend to buy the topper at the salon or did you bring one with you? I don't know if this makes any sense...I'm so new to all of this and I'm feeling quite desperate and I have no idea how any of this works! Up until a few days ago, I had no idea what a topper was! Again, any more information would be greatly appreciated.

People fly from all over the world to see Dov for hairpieces so when you call they will not be suprised when you tell them what your problems are. Although the haircut is expensive, I can assure you he will not sell you any hairpieces unless you need them- he is just that kind of person. One of my friends did get one and she said it ended up costing less than other cheaper places because it lasted so long and the quality was so good it was cheaper to maintain. Treat yourself.
My logic was if i see the best and need to seek out cheaper solutions I will know if it is worth it because I have a great comparison. I would hate to see you spinning your wheels, pending money on cuts/hairpieces that don't make you happy and then going to him. Start here- it will change your life- promise.

How hard is it to obtain an appointment with him? I live in Maryland so I'd have to take a trip up there. Also much do toppers usually run, and how high maintenance are they?

Thanks!

Luc

Hi, Kathy -- This part of your post really made me smile: "I can't explain it, you just have to experience it." That's so true! He is an incredible person -- he's helped me so much, by making me hair that has changed my life (given me my life back actually.)
Also cracked me up about the Visa -- I just take a deep breath and slide my credit card across the counter, LOL. He's not that expensive for the value, truthfully. I just picked up my new topper two weeks ago -- the first one he made for me was 5 years old (!!!) and it still looks really good. It's so comforting to have two now . I was always afraid something would happen when I only had one. But back to value, considering how long it lasted it's not expensive at all (and I don't spend much on coloring my bio hair anymore so it's even better)
Maybe we'll run into each other up there!
Cheers,
Janie-Ann

That's interesting too. I've heard of some women all upset and actually quite angry when he's said he didn't think they needed a topper or they "weren't ready" for a wig or topper. I think that speaks to his integrity, that he doesn't take advantage of the opportunity just to sell someone something. When I first started on this "journey," the first woman I went to was such a shark and really took advantage of women who are, understandably, freaking out and in a very vulnerable place in our life.

How much is one of his toppers? Is the topper bonded or clipped on or either? Thank you!

The costs of Dov's toppers varies -- I think mainly depending on the length of hair you want. They start at around $1,800 and can go up to like $2,200. That includes the final "cut in."

His hair cuts are extraordinary and the pieces really move and look like your own hair -- they just don't sit there like some toppers or falls I've seen -- even good quality hair ones.

Two thousand dollar is a lot of money but my first topper I got from him five years ago is still in fantastic shape, so I tell myself it all averages out. The hair itself is still silky and wonderful, the cap is in perfect condition -- but after all this wear, the color (blond) got wonky. I suspect if the piece were dark, I'd still be wearing it.

Thank you for your response. Did you get your topper attached? and if you did how often did you get it re attached. Does it last longer if it's not attached with glue? I have been looking for different options and I am not sure what to do. I am loosing hair pretty rapidly and am in a bit of a panic. Did you have to go back to dov dov for your hair cuts as well or did you find someone close to home? Olga:>

mine is a clip on. Sometimes Dov cuts my bio hair, sometimes I go to a gal down the street. My bio hair doesn't grow much anymore. But I'm pretty sure Dov doesn't do bonding or "systems" or anything other than full wigs and clip on toppers.
