What a coincidence! I was also about to ask if anyone knew of a good physician in Houston who specializes in hair loss. Please let me know if you find anyone. :)

Why don't you join the network and join a group called Houston Hairloss Help. You can ask your question there. I know there are some in Houston but don't know their names off hand. I saw Toni Smith, PA with Advanced Dermatology in Pearland. She does look at the hormonal side of all of this and she has an excellent bedside manner. She doesn't rush you out the door either. That being said, she has no idea why my shedding is lasting so long. She sees TE from birth control pills all the time and says the shedding normally lasts about 3 months. She also told me she has had to send women to their PCP for anti-anxiety or anti-depressants to end the TE. Let me know if you have any more questions.

My only question is. "Has anyone had any hair grow back" I don't care if it is a witch doctor if it worked. I think there is a reason we don't see many Hair loss doctors. How can you specialize in something that no one understands?
I love that name benfranklinlookalike

I feel the same way! My internist even said I'd probably have to go to LA or NYC to find a specialist. I did go to Dr Redmond, but that was a bust for me. I do have a wonderful derm. She doesn't claim to be a hair expert, but she will prescribe spiro if you want to try it. At the very least, I find she is compassionate about the problem. Her name is Dr. Amy Woods, Greenpark Plaza, South Main. Of course, my insurance has not covered any of my hair loss dr visits. Guess hair is considered 'cosmetic'?

Insurance will pay if you tell the doctor that you have itchy scalp or scalp pain. Lie if you have too and then also get what you need like Spiro.

KAWAWA~
Thank you for the tip. I love your name & the Ms. Piggy photo! Right now I don't even care about my hair. I kind of wish it would just all fall out & be done with it OR just stop falling out!! OK, that's not a completely true statement, I want it to stop...I'm just worn down. But Ms. Piggy makes me smile. k

When I first got my wiggy I keep slinging it out of my face like Miss Piggy does. I just love her, in all her preceived beauty with her pretty wiggy.
I live in Houston too.

Hi kdwmw,
I just made an appointment to see Dr.Redmond. I read where you said it was a bust for you. Was he not able to help? That's alot of money to spend and get no help.
I'm really hoping he can do something to help my PCOS. It's sooooo frustrating.....hard to loose weight, loosing hair, I looked at an old picture of me and even my eyebrows are thinning!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sincerely, Denise B.

I've made an appointment to see Dr. Redmond. You said it was a bust for you. That's alot of money for no help. I've had PCOS for a long time and was diagnosed about a year ago. It's so frustrating.....loosing hair, gaining weight, even my eyebrows are thinning!!
I really hope he can help me. I'm on metformin and spiro. I just hope there's something that will stave off my hair loss. Sincerely, Denise B.

Hi Denise,
I'm keeping fingers crossed for you! Since you have a diagnosis of PCOS, I hope he'll have some ideas for you. My problem is that all my labs are normal, except my thyroid which I manage with Armour & Levoxyl. I read his book about hormonally vulnerable women & was hopeful that his treatment of blocking testosterone & boosting my estrogen would stop my hair loss. I was happy to try anything, unfortunately his treatment didn't work for me. The weird thing is, as of this week my shed seems to be slowing! (I just knocked on wood). I'm just doing Rogaine & taking vitamins. I'd like to hear about your dr. visit. When do you go?

Sorry about the double post. I really hope he can help too. On top or PCOS I also have seborrehic dermatitis. It really acts up when the wether flucuates. So I also think that may contribute to my hair loss. I just had a flair up not too long ago. The itching Flaking and burning in my scalp was horrible. Anyhow I will let you know and hope your hairloss lessens. God know I do. Sincerely, Denise B.
