I just got back from my derm's office and have a diagnosis of telogen effluvium. He said no signs of scarring or genetic alopecia. We both think that there's a very good chance the meds I was on caused this since they can cause anemia. My ferritin level was 17 when I had it checked a couple of weeks ago and today I had B12 and folate checked because we think they may be low due to the meds as well. My derm said that resolving the iron and B12 deficiency if applicable could stop the hair loss. He also said that if this is the case, my hair should grow back. The burning sensation has mostly stopped although I'm still feeling it some.

That's great! Many women have told me that, ideally, your ferritin should be above 80 to maintain and grow hair (mines at 10 right now). I get the burning sensation too, so it's good to know that it might go away.
Hope you feel better!

I really hope that the ferritin fixes it, but I know that there are no guarantees. I still get the burning sensation a little but it's not incapacitating like it was a couple of weeks ago. I thought I was going to lose it. Honestly though, right now I feel like everything is pretty much falling apart.

I have fairly severe psoriasis that was pretty well controlled by meds, which I had to stop taking. Now I'm well on my way to having my skin covered again. I've had it for over fifteen years and my hair has honestly been the only thing that I like about myself. The stress of the constant shedding and now my skin is making it hard for me to function at home and work. I know my negativity is really taking a toll on my marriage and my kids but I just don't know how to be positive right now. :(

I'm so sorry. Why did you have to stop taking them?
They should understand the physical and emtional pain this is putting you through. I'm sure they love you just the same; everyone goes through hard times and for a woman, losing hair and having a skin condition is extremely trying. If anyone would and should empathize, it would be your family.

We think that my meds may have indirectly caused the hair loss, so I had to stop for a few months at least to see if my blood levels come back up. I think my husband does understand as much as he can, he's been through this with me for a long time and he tries to be supportive. I've had issues with depression from the psoriasis, the hair thing has kind of sent me over the edge this time though. Plus we have two little kids, which can be crazy anyway lol.
