I had several blood tests checking for total iron binding capacity and ferritin level. These blood tests indicate that I am within the normal range. However, the results from a hair analysis shows my iron level is low along with trace minerals, especially magnesium, and that mercury levels are higher than the normal range. I am really confused how it can be that my iron level is fine in bloodwork and not fine according to a hair analysis. Could someone offer their knowledge on reading and evaluating iron levels?

if you dont mind me asking, how did you go about getting your hair tested? I am interested in doing it, but don't know how to go about it and really dont want to bounce from doc to doc again! As far as different tests coming up with different levels, I have heard that the hair test is more sensitive and will pick up more than the blood test. It is also not affected by eating, or time of day like the blood tests. It is a comprehensive look at your body without the bullshit they put you through for a blood test. I can't tell you how many times my doctor told me it was ok to eat before a test only to find out from the lab (after the fact) that he was wrong. urg. I would trust the hair test if I were you.

The response has been due for some time. I had a toxic and nutritional elements test done at a hair loss clinic in South Korea.
I believe that naturopaths also perform these tests. I haven't been to one in Los Angeles, where I currently reside, and am considering finding one for a thorough health consultation, which I believe is directly linked to hair loss. Dht cannot be the sole culprit for hair loss.
