View Full Version : Need help
Hi everyone !
I don't understand why my scalp is hurting so much. Some parts of my head are very painful to touch. The shedding have slowing down in the past 2 weeks, balding spots beginning to fill with new growth...
What happening ? I am scared, I won't be able to see the Dermatologist for a little more than 2 weeks from now.
My hair loss started in early Jun this year, (Alopecia Areata). Till last week I never experience this kind of problem beside a little irritation, and itchy scalp...
Anyone have any idea what's going on ...Please share
Thank you

A lot of us experience that pain, in addition to the itching. I was told that it is neurological. Someone on the site recommended Capsaicin cream, which her doctor had suggested. It helps her. I bought it to have for my next episode, but haven't needed it yet (knock on wood). You can try OTC pain relievers too. There doesn't seem to be much out there at all that helps with this, I'm sorry. Good luck.
Thank you
I'll try ...

Hi Evie, sorry to hear of your scalp pain. I had a really bad burning sensation for many months that was worse than the hair loss itself, if you can imagine. My scalp burned so bad I put steriod cream on it and many other strange things to try and alleviate it. Nothing worked for me until I was into my 5th month on spiro. It didn't burn as bad and then when I start taking Yasmin my overall scalp felt way better. The burning went away and hasn't returned at all. The tightness and itch left too. I read in Dr. Redmond's book that itchy scalp is associated with testostrone sensitivity and burning scalp is low estrogen sensitivity. Don't know if any of that information is helpful to you but I hope it is. My thoughts are with you.
Hi !
Your formations very helpful, it's make perfect sense for my case. I feel a little less scary now...
The medications help you, then I can hope it would help me too...but
I would need doctor's prescription to buy Spiro, and Yasmin right ?
It doesn't matter ,I'll tell my Dermatologist about the medications in my next appointment, ( a little more than 2 weeks ) :(
Thank you so much for sharing your experiences, it mean a lot

Good morning Evie,
You do need a prescription to get spironolactone also called Aldactone. Ask for the name brand because sometimes the genertic brands aren't as effective for hair loss. Also you probably need at least 100mg/day of spiro and some take as much as 200mg/day. Yasmin is just a birth control pill that helps with low estrogen hair loss. I take it continuously for 12 weeks and then I will stop for 4 days. This stops the rise and fall of the hormones. You may know all this from reading other post but if not that's it in a nutshell.
I hope your appointment with the derm goes well.
Hugs
Angela

Sometimes with AA an itchy scalp or even some irritation can mean the hair is about to either fall out OR grow in. I have had both experiences.
Since you do have some regrowth right now you hair loss could be going into remission and at times your scalp can become itchy as the hair comes in or is even about to come in. :>
