I am having my Iron & Zinc levels checked on Monday (Nov 9th)
I know people with CD have to watch for Anemia because of the inability to properly absorb vitmins & minerals due to damaged villi in the intestines.
I was diagnosed 2 years ago and my hair loss started to pick up after that. I too leave trails everywhere- people are always commenting- and I am not sure what's causing it. I also have Raynaud's Disease (common among Celiac's-circulatory disease) as well as Adrenal Exhaustion.
So far I have lost 3/4 of my hair. It began in 2006.
My Thyroid tests are perfect.
Lovely to meet you all.

Hi Colette, what did your doctor say?
I know I have a problem with gluten. I get really bad stomach aches and itchy skin, especially my scalp, if I accidentally eat some.
I think my hair loss is related to gluten. If I can be totally gluten free for a few weeks, my scalp stops itching and my hair loss slows down. The trick is that I need to stay gluten free long enough to see if my hair will grow back. This means NO eating out. I'll let you know you it goes and I hope to hear from you too. :)
I feel for both of you. I have only a minorly itchy scalp, and it drives me crazy!
Collette, I suffer from Adrenal Fatigue also. I have been using sea salt in water everyday (1/4 t in .5 liter bottle 2 times a day), and it helps with fatigue and my hair fall-out is slowing down, I think. One of my doctor's said that adrenals affect thyroid, so our thyroid numbers could be perfect, but the thyroid could still be working too hard and not efficiently.
NotoriusJ, good luck with the gluten free. I tried it once, felt a bit better, but didn't have the perseverence for it. Hope it goes well, and I'd love to hear you have little hairs growing in a month!

Hi Ladies!!!
J- from my CD I have a rash called Dermatitis Herpetiformis- it IS related specifically to CD and only people with CD have it- and it itches like no ones business. I have other dietary restrictions from my CD as well- no dairy, no soy, no nightshade, I eat all organic- no nitrates, no artificial colors or flavors, no msg, no carageenan, no strawberries, no rice. no 'malt' anything.
What I did when I first thought I might have it was do an elimination diet. Start by taking gluten out of your diet for a few weeks and see what happens when you add it back. I got severe d I don't anymore thank god. I get it from any of the other foods I am intolerant to as well. It's not uncommon for Celiac's to have mutiple intolerances, mostly dairy, soy, corn, nuts, eggs
I have been gluten free for just over 2 years. I can be overwhelming at times but you just get used to it. I am kind of a walking CD dictionary now HAHAHA
Other symotoms of Celiac Disease are mouth sores...trouble sleeping...and a bloated belly (especially after eating gluten) that heals from taking probiotics. Do you ever wake up in the middle of the night with ravenous hunger? I used to have obsessive thoughts, and depression. I still suffer from mild depression. Exercise helps for me. Anxiety was really bad too.
And at first I was sleeping like 14 hours a night.
They say it takes between 2- 2 1/2 years to heal your gut and get your energy back and not have depression anymore. I can't believe how grounded I feel now- it's crazy!
CFly I read somewhere that salt water helps but I can't stomach how it tastes- it makes me nauseus. I have been taking Solaray Adrenal caps since July 2008. I read an article that said it takes upwards of 2 1/2 years to heal Adrenal Exhaustion but you have to take something with RAW GLANDULAR in it which is what I am doing. But my hair has not stopped falling out. The article said specifically for severe adrenal fatigue (daily) take:
morning:
2 Adrenal Caps
1ooo mg Vitamin C
200 mg Magnesium Stearate
noon:
2 Adrenal Caps
1ooo mg Vitamin C
200 mg Magnesium Stearate
bedtime:
2 Adrenal Caps
1ooo mg Vitamin C
You can take Raw Glandular up to 5 times a day if you are SUPER tired!
For me- between the CD and Adrenal Exhaustion I still sleep 12 hours a night. HAHAHA:D
Please keep me updated you guys!

Oh- CFly, I am going to try and do the salt water again- the book I read said to drink 1 tsp sea salt mixed in with warm (8 oz) of water. That is why I was gagging- warm salty water. I am going to do it the way you are and see if I notice anything.
:)
thanks!
