Anyone ever use a few hair extensions (bonded) to some existing hair. I am new to this site, and can someone explain what a Topper is???
thanks to all of you for creating a place for valuable info. Thinning Hair is scary and it is difficult for me to talk about it.

yes, i have tried it. Disaster for my hair though it looked good. I lost more hair from all the damage and it hasn't come back for over a year. My advice, don't do them but maybe look for the wrap around ponytails or buns that you could pin in or just wrap around.

Hi ... I am new to this site and totally lost about my problem ... i have 1" long hair around my temples, won't grow longer, and I want the look of full hair around my face ... was thinking of bonded or sewn-in extensions ... or a custom "piece" ... any advice/thoughts? What is a wrap-around?

I've used extensions numerous times. I actually really like them. If you get a high quality extension (like Great Lengths), and only keep them in for the recommended time (about 3-5 months) it shouldn't do any damage to your hair. I made the mistake of doing 2 sets back to back and keeping them in for about 6 months a piece, and my hair was very damaged after. Since then I have done them here or there, keeping them in for only 3-4 months and then giving my hair a break for at least 6 months in between and it's been fine.

If your thinning in the bangs and crown area do extentions work to "cover" or thicken it there? im very new to this and will be asking many questions im sure, my thinning is really getting noticeable, horribly so.

^I am a newbie too and am wondering the exact same thing. I am planning on visiting a hair extension salon in boston (any recommendations anyone?) and asking them for advise. i would prefer extensions over anything else add volume to my crown. I'll let you know what i find.

I did a lot of research online and there ARE extensions that are done specifically on the crown area. They are by a company called "Cyber Hair" and are known as the "Micro Point Link". you can see more information here: .http://www.micropointlink.com/micropointlinks.html

Essentially the hair stylist takes four individual strands of hair and ties them to your bio hair. The knots are very small and almost invisible. I went to a salon today for a consult and got a couple of them put in my hair. The process was very quick, painless and I can barely see the knots on my scalp. The hair strands are so fine that i am having a difficult time locating them on my head. I am getting my whole crown done with around 600-800 hairs for my wedding and am super excited. You can find a salon that uses these extensions here: http://www.micropointlink.com/locate.html. Good luck!

It has been difficult for me to talk about it. However I feel that if we do talk about it and get it out in the open, less women will feel so alone in this - and more women will helped. More women will learn that there is something they can do about their hair loss.

Concerning externsions, I personally do not feel any form of extension is a good idea, expecially bonded extensions. When I started wearing hair, I had three rules about it. Rule number one was that is was not aloud to cause more damage than I was already dealing with. Rule numbr two was it needed to be something I could put on and take off by myself without any help. Rule number three, it had to look as real as possible. I chose pull through intigration pieces that blended into what was left of my own hair. They served me well for many years until I recovered enough that I don't need them any more.
