I had about a dozen cortisone injections into my alopecia spot last week. Prior to the shots, I had no pain or discomfort in my balding spot. However, ever since I've gotten the shots the spot has been sore and tender. Last night it was extremely inflamed! Is this a normal reaction to cortisone? Has anyone else experienced this? Overall, it looks like the hair is growing back (although last night when it was heavily inflamed it seemed like a dozen or so new hairs fell out).

What was your experience with cortisone injections?

I was just about to ask a similar question. I recently had a cortisone injection on my alopecia (http://www.chiquel.com.au/Hairloss.aspx) spot and found some itchiness after going through the process. There were some inflammations, too, but I keep telling myself that it's all going to be worth it. How long does it take for your hair to re-grow?

As for the new hairs falling out, I read that increased shedding of hair is a side effect of cortisone. Not sure if it's applicable to everyone though.

After a few injections (over a few months) I stopped getting them. I really didn't feel like they did anything for me. Some hair had grown back in one side of my "spot", and on the other side some new hair fell out (my bald spot got bigger before it got better -- dime size to silver dollar size). I knew that typically the hair comes back on its own within a year, and since it was located on the back of my head where no one could see it, I decided just to let it be.

I'm happy to report one year later all my hair has grown back in and no new bald spots have appeared!!! Maybe the injections had something to do with it, maybe not. Just happy to have my little hairs back :)
