My eyebrows have been receding and getting patchy - from the inside. I know that when the outer third thins, it can mean a thyroid issue. But what is it when the loss is at the area closest to your nose ? Sometimes a few hairs will grow back, but they don't hang around very long. It's worse on my left side, just like all of my shedding. Anybody else with a dx of AGA have this? Thanks.

I wish I had an answer for you, I never experienced that. My eyebrows never seem to have been affected by my hair loss. And I just learned something from your post, I had no idea that when the outer third thins it can mean a thyroid issue. Good to know. I hope someone will be able to shed some light on this.

Interesting, Victoria! I have to wonder, can it still be thyroid, even though it's in a different area of the eyebrow? Hmm.

I'm sure it's very possible! We've certainly seen so many "exceptions" with all of our symptoms and diagnoses, right?

And now my eyelashes are jumping ship. This morning there were 5 on my cheek, I've never noticed that many at once. What's that about??

Hi Vicki, have you asked a doctor about that? I have never personally heard of that associated with typical female pattern type hair loss, so perhaps there is *something* else going on with you. Find the source of that and maybe correcting it will help the hair loss too!

I don't know what that may be. I do have a hypothryoid (being treated by medication for 1 year so far) and my eyebrows seem pretty thin. Not sure if I'd attribute that to plucking or even just natural. I fill them in. I'm going to start using Rogaine soon for my hair and will also try it on my eyebrows, as I've heard that's effective. Will post if I get results from that. Maybe you could try it?

I actually have used Nizoral on my eyebrows when they get itchy and flaky, and it helps with that. I tried Rogaine for my hair, but I had trouble dealing with the shedding, itching and flaking. I probably should have given it more time, but I chickened out. I know that with Rogaine you can get hair growth on your face, you have to be really careful where you put it, where it drips...It would be great if it could help with my eyebrows. I'll have to research that. Thanks!

I have one balding patch on one eyebrow. The lady who waxes my eyebrowes (same lady for last 3 years) once every 3 months noticed it wasn't filling back in. I never made the connection to the eyebrow patch and my hair loss until she said something.

The first time I noticed my patch was over a year ago, shortly after trying a new facial masque. I thought maybe some of the stuff got on my eyebrow and pulled the hairs out. I have not used that product anywhere near my eyebrows since then, but hairs consistently fall out in that area - and now on the other eyebrow - so I figure it's hair related.

My eyebrows are also very sparse on the outer third, and thinning all over. My doctor says I have no thyroid problem. I use mascara every morning on them and whenever I get my hair colored (about once every 5 weeks) I have the stylist put the color on my eyebrows too. So it has not been a problem for me. If they should completely fall out, I will likely get a tattoo -- what they call permanent makeup. I know quite a few women with thin eyebrows from a lifetime of plucking, but mine only went thin recently, at the same time as the hair loss on my head.

I've actually met a few women who had AGA or TE loss and experienced loss of eyebrow hair/eyelashes/body hair as well.

I don't understand why, or if it's because of AGA or some other problem, but I know you're not alone in being healthy with these issues.

Sorry I could be more help :( Every once in a while I notice that my left side eyelashes like to leave me, too. Same place my loss is worse on my head.

My hair loss started with the loss of my eyebrows. One day I noticed that they were getting thinner. Within 3 weeks I had absolutely no eyebrows left. My dermatologist said "It's your thyroid." The endocrinologist said "It's not your thyroid." It was about 3 months after that when my hair started falling out. I had heard of emu oil so I tried that on my eyebrows. After 5 months, I got a few eyebrow hairs back but they still remain very sparse, maybe about 1/3rd of them have come back.

It's so odd how these things progress differently in different women, isn't it?
