I always wondered if there was a correlation between graying and hair loss? I'm 29 years old and started graying at 25 unfortunately. Even worst, now I've noticed my hair density has been reduced due to more than normal shedding lately I think is due to stress. Does anyone know if there is a remedy out there to restore your youthful hair??!! I heard L'oreal might release a gray hair restoration product within the next 5-10 years, they are still working on the research behind it. Any thoughts?

Hi Barbie:

I've been dealing with TE for the last 8-9 months from going off the pill and being severely anemic. During this time, I've also noticed tons of grey hairs. Some of my hairs are half dark brown and half grey (towards the root). Some might think that I dye my hair and my roots are coming out grey, but I don't dye my hair. I've heard that a defiency in B vitamins can cause greying of hairs - and stress also depletes your B vitamins. Maybe you can try taking a B complex and see if it makes a difference.

Thanks for the tip. I will definitley start taking B complex vitamins. As for the grays, I started using henna (it's been 2 years now) and the red effects from the gray hair is actually quite nice. What color is your natural hair color? I use the henna from Lush (Caca Rouge) and really like it. It's also suppost to thicken hair and protect the hair from damage because it coats the cuticle. Did you notice a decrease in grays since the TE started?

Hi Barbie:

The grays have increased since TE began. I just recently dyed my hair because they were getting out of control. But for some reason I think the stress from TE has made more of them come up. My natural hair color is a medium brown. But I dye it a dark brown for better gray coverage. I just used L'Oreal's Healthy Look semi color. It's not permanent and it left my hair super shiny and healthy.

I've never really heard of a connection between gray hairs and hair loss. My Mom and all her brothers had more than 50% grays by the time they were in the their mid 30's. Their Mom also had 50% gray by the time she was 40. But they all managed to maitain full heads of hair - even the men in their 50's and 60's.

Has your thinning be slow? Or have you noticed an increase in shedding recently?

My TE has not slowed down, I used to lose about 15-30 hairs/day and now i'm losing 100-150 hairs a day and it's been over 4 months now. My hair looks different now and it's stressing me out- I'm starting to lose confidence. Apparently, L'Oreal R&D department is working on new products that will restore both graying hair and hair loss.Bruno Bernard, the CEO says that we should expect products within the next 5-10 years. If these products are one day available, would you use them? I just hope this episode of TE stops soon, would you happen to know how to tell the difference between acute TE and chronic TE?Thanks!! TTYS.

if your sis has female MPB, there's a few natural products that are suppost to work: Biofen, saw palmetto, green tea.

other products: diane 35, minoxidil.

Barbie:

How much hair do you think you've lost in these last 4 months? So far I think I've lost around 40% of my hair.

I think if a product came out with would eliminate greys, I would give it a try. But I don't mind having to dye my hair since it always gives it a little oomph! :)

I really don't know how to tell the difference between the two. But Chronic TE, I've read can last up to 7 years! Yikes! Some articles online say if it lasts more than a year it can be considered Chronic. But I'm not sure.

What caused your TE?

Pilar.
Your story sounds a lot like mine. I went on Yaz during summer of 09 for 3 months. I stopped taking it in July. That's when my hair loss began. It's been a steady loss since then. I was losing upward of 160 hairs a day. It's slowed down a bit, but not much. I'm probably losing a 100 hairs a day now.
I've gone to 2 endocrinologists and one dermatologist. All labs come back normal. They don't know what to think. I have normal stress, and have taken iron supplements for a few months now.
How do you know if its TE/CE or if the Yaz kicked in androgenic alopeica?
I do have re-growth of various lengths, but I don't know if that happens with Androgenic alopecia?
I'm 40, and have always had very fine hair, but a lot of it. I've never had a hair loss problem before.
I used to have an incredibly thick pony-tail, and now I can wrap the hair tie around one more time.
Thanks for your help.
Lisa

I forgot to mention that I too have started to see grey hairs. Not much, but I've never had them before.

Hmmmmmm...I'm not too sure what caused the TE. It may be stress, or due to 10 lbs I lost a few months ago... I went to a hair loss clinic and they said I should not worry because they were able to see re-growth under the microscope. I have to go back in the fall to assess the re-growth and see if it's healthy. For those of you that don't now if it's TE or MPB, it's a good idea to go check it out at a hair loss clinic. Now, I would say it looks almost 20% less dense than how it used to be, but I'm not sure.
I decided to change my mind set and focus on what's growing and not what is being lost :) What about you? Are you noticing the re-growth? TTYS.

Hair loss is a sign stress has pushed your body off balance. When you are under stress, you notice hair loss as well as dull and lifeless hair that has become waxy with the overproduction of traumatized sebaceous glands.

Hi - here's my 2 cents. The women in my family all go snow white, and the white hairs start in the early 40's. I've been coloring mine to a light golden blond instead of the dirty blond of my adulthood, which allows me to go longer between re-color.

So, fast forward to me at age 62. Hair loss and amount of white hair has continued slowly with no discernible effect by the store-bought Excellence or Preference I have used for over 20 years. In fact, it always looks better when I color it.

I joined the forum to find support from women who are at the point of thinness on their heads where they can't quite hide it any more. I hope to find some people here that I can support and gain support from. In the meantime, I just stopped in to say that I really don't think hair color contributed to this slow thinning...it's just in my genes.
