View Full Version : I'm still trying!

I started noticing my hair loss in January of 2007. I waited a few weeks to go to the doctor, I hoped it would stop. I went to my then-dermatologist, he did the pull test, told me my hair was actively shedding (for this I paid a copay?), said it was TE. Ok, I accepted that - I'd had 2 herniated disks a few months prior, took the step-down dose of pednisone. In April, it stopped. In July, it started again. And didn't stop. My blood work indicated I was healthy, my iron a little low, my thyroid within normal range. In October he referred me to a specialist, who did biopsies. This time I was told it was AGA - I had overall thinning, plus receding at my temples and bangs. I started on biotin, lysine, multivitamins. They recommended Rogaine, I ignored that! I never went back to the specialist, I was not impressed with him or his attitude (or his staff). I went to my internest every few months to have my bllod checked, I wanted them to find something! My thyroid was always with in the normal range, but it was fluctuating, so he suggested trying Synthroid. It made my shedding worse, so with his OK, I stopped taking it (it was just something to try, to see if it would help). Next I finally tried Rogaine. My scalp got very itchy and flaky, the shedding was horrendous, I could not keep using it. Maybe I should have tried harder, I don't know, I just know I was physically uncomfortable using it. Zoloft? Made me nauseous and sleepless. Sulfate-free shampoos? OK, those I really like, I have 2 I use. Spiro - I've now been on it for 6 months, but only 25 mgs. My BP is so low my doctor won't let me take a higher dose. But it seems my testosterone is very low and my estrogen vey high, so I don't know if the spiro would help anyway. I also started using slow FE - I know my iron is low, and while I brought it up, not my doctor, he said it's a good idea. Healthier foods? I should have started that a long time ago!!

So what am I saying here? I have, and will, try just about anything. Most of what I've tried comes from the recommendations and postings of friends on the WHLP. I am pretty sure my diagnosis is incorrect, I have too many inconsistencies in my symptoms. My hair loss is much slower than many of you here, but it is definitely happening. I will always be checking in for the latest advice, and to help anyone I can with my experiences. Good luck to us all:rolleyes:
