I had the Mirena for two years. Loved it, except I started having weird side effects about 18 months into it---very oily hair, migraines, and worst of all, excessive hair loss (not the normal 10-50 hairs a day, but more like 100-150). I was getting bald near my part, and my hairline was receding. After reading many many blogs,I went to Planned Parenthood to have it removed. I told the practitioner my side effects and that I wanted the Mirena removed. She said she had "never heard of hair loss as a side effect". BAH!!! I am so glad I removed it. After 4 weeks fuzzy hair returned to my hair line, small hairs are sprouting around my scalp, particularly near the part. The hair loss itself decreased SIGNIFICANTLY. The oilyness-gone! If I would have waited longer, and listened to the doctor, I would likely be half bald by now. I waited to write this until I was very sure that it was the Mirena causing the hair loss. I am now convinced, and I implore anyone with these side effects to IMMEDIATELY get the Mirena OUT. It was not all in my head--no pun intended...
