Default HELP! 23 and lots of hair fall!

I am 23 and just had medical abortion on July 1st. Even before the abortion I noticed alot more shedding, and I linked it too sudden stopping of my BC pills. I also was brutal to my natural blonde hair and was dying it alot, and not caring as it had always been healthy. I feel like an idiot now, as I cant even brush it without wincing in fear of how much will come out. Its not really visible to anyone else, just me, but I notice scalp showing through right at the front of my part in the center of my forehead. No receding or anything, just thinning right there. Overall my hair feels less bulky, but I have always had fine hair.

Lately I have been really stressed, as the abortion took a toll and the father, my boyfriend of 6 months dumped me. Our relationship was always stressful, with moments where I would feel sick I was so stressed. Could this be the reason? Its only been a month since the abortion, but the hairloss really picked up today, lost about 50+ strands while brushing and about 10+ in my hand when I put it up in a loose ponytail. I am scared. This isnt normal and I feel sick about it. I always loved my hair, and to loose it...I couldnt survive. Help!

I have noticed all my hairs seem to have a white bump at the end! Is this a good sign that it may not be permanent? Also, my scalp keeps itching, feeling tight and sometimes burning. I really need help! My hair I still have is really dry and fragile, anyone know of products that can make it healthier? Like hair masques???

Hey! I'm 19 and I've been dealing with hair loss since I started the pill when I was 16. I know a hair mask that I've been doing for the past year or so that helps sooooo much! I bleach my hair as well so I know what you mean about the dryness.

I don't know if you've heard of it but I use egg yolk as a hair mask mixed with a little bit of olive oil or rosemary oil (which I prefer now) for the itchiness. Basically just crack an egg, separate the white from the yolk and mix it in a bowl with a little bit of the oil. You can use 2 egg yolks if your hair is long. Then just put it in hair, and make sure you cover your scalp. Then put on a shower cap (this prevents the mask from drying and getting hard on your hair). I sleep with the mask and shower cap on but you can leave it on for however long you want, even an hour or so makes a difference.

Then when you wash it make sure you use cool water, you probably won't need to use more shampoo than normal.

Honestly, not only does this help soo much with the feel of your hair and scalp itchiness, but for some reason it actually makes your hair feel so much thicker, like there's more of it. I know it might sound kind of sketchy if you've never heard of it lol, I mean you wouldn't expect eggs to work, but it works!

Exclamation Question

Thanks! I tried a mayonnaise mask similar to that with 2 egg yolks, it helped the dryness, alot. Not stopping the hair fall though, and its getting visible. I still need an answer on my question, does the fact that all my lost hairs have a white bump on the end of them mean this is TE and not FPB(female pattern baldness)? I am freaking out, but if I know it will come back eventually I will calm, I am just a bit upset right now as I dont know! It seems so early for the TE to be from the abortion since I only had it July 1st! HELP!!!!

Hello
A white bulb on the end of a hair means that it's TE, and it will grow back. My Dermatologist said to always check for the white bulb at the end of a hair. If it's there, that's a good sign :-)

Hi Jezah:

When did you stop taking the pill?

I took the pill for only 2 months and 2 months after stopping I was losing tons and tons of hair. It has VERY slowly decreased and now I'm losing between 40-80 hairs a day. For the first few months I was losing over 350 in the shower and after styling. I still don't know whether my current shed is normal, since I don't really remember how much I shed before all of this happened. I started seeing re growth by the 2nd or 3rd month of TE. Some of those hairs have fallen out and some are now 2-3 inches long. I'm currently on month 8 of TE (maybe not TE but recovery now...fingers crossed) and I see some re growth, but definitely not enough to make a difference. So far I think I've lost 40%-50% of my hair but since I started out with a lot of thick hair, it's not noticeable to most.

I have also experienced the itching/tingling and burning on my scalp. It was REALLY bad from the 6th month to just recently. Now I feel the scalp discomfort once a week or so. Have you noticed an increase in shedding after the scalp discomfort? Or do you think the scalp discomfort is caused my stress?

From what I've read, TE hair loss does eventually stop and hair does grow back.

So hang in there! Hopefully this will be over for the both of us very soon!

Pilar

» Forum Vs. Network ?
What Is The Difference Between The Network and The Forum? The "Network" is a social network much like facebook and myspace, only it's just for women with hair loss. A forum is more of a bulletin board to post a question or story for others to read and to receive responses. It's easy and direct. I am hoping that the forum will be easy and inviting for those women who are uninterested or find it difficult to do the social network thing.
