Laser/ Minoxidil / Tablets Treatment

Even though I've only just signed up to be a member, I've been following this forum for an age trying to find something that'll work. Seeing you guys all being so supportive has been a tremendous help in the "darker" lack of confidence days, so thank you from the bottom of my heart!

After using Nioxin and Megatek for a few months, I only really saw minimum results, breakages in my hair getting stronger and a little more healthy. But overall it didn't really work for me, so I went and saw a specialist at a Hair Loss Clinic today - GOOD NEWS! Apparently I'm not balding but my hair is very damaged and weak which has caused very low density in areas on my scalp, forming 'bald' like patches.

The long and the short of it, is I'm being put on a six month program of laser scalp treatment (not as severe as it sounds), a solution called minoxidil and some pills (which I'm really sorry, but I can't remember the name of) which are suppose to build up a resilience to the DHT in my blood. Seeing as I have not been an active member, but your posts have filled me with so much hope, I thought it only fair to share my own experience. I don't start treatment until next Thursday, but I'll be sure to keep you updated, and will upload pictures throughout my treatment (if I can stop breaking my camera).

I have been using Minoxidil and my laser comb as part of my regimen for over four years. I started with just the laser comb by itself for the first six months of treatment back in November of 2007. After that first six months it was obvious that it was improving my hair, though I am not sure if it made any hair grow back. It definitely made the hair that I still had at the time look better, fuller and more youthful.

After that first six months, I started using generic 2% women's Minoxidil and Nizoral A-D shampoo twice per week in place of my regular shampoo. By the end of that second six months it was obvious that I was growing hair back.

So after that first year of treating my hair loss on my own I went to see a specialist and he prescribed Spiro. Those months after adding Spiro to my regimen I really started growing hair back. I've been on that regimen ever since and it has been working very well for me. I still have hair coming in now. So yes it takes a long time. Persistence and consistence are key to resolving hereditary hair loss.
