I have heard it said that a woman's hair is her crowning glory. But is it? How can hair be a crowning glory? To me, the marks of crowning glory are compassion, love, mercy, joy, peace, patience, kindness and forgiveness. What is hair without these things? You can be absolutely wicked at heart and have an exceptional head of hair but what would we gain from such things? No...a woman's heart is her crowning glory! It leads her to open her eyes to those in need, and reach out her hands with compassion to soothe the pain of those who are suffering. What can compare to that? There is a passage of scripture at the end of Proverbs 31 about the Wife of Noble character and I believe it sums it all up: "Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting, but the woman who fears the Lord shall be praised." What are your thoughts?
Great post Angela. That is a scripture I've come to loathe lately as I think it is misused in fundamental churchs. Paul was dealing with a controversy about women not wearing their veils and I think his writing were to urge the Corinthian Christians to conform to the cultural norms of their areas (which I don't believe translates all that well to modern times). I love your alternative verse. Think I am going to scratch out I Corinthians 11:15 and say "see Proverbs 31:30"
The scripture is taken out of context a lot and for some reason women tend to hold onto it and beat themselves up about it. It always comes down to the heart and what we do in this life that matters to God. Not our hair style. There are more scriptures about the heart than about the hair...more about substance rather than appearance.
Um, I might be a bit late and off-base here, but as for either a woman or a man, I think the bible tries to tell people to steer clear of vanity in general. I keep thinking of that one guy who lost all his super-hero powers when some chick cut his hair off. I don't know if the moral of that story was to not be vain about your hair, or to not sleep with crazy women armed with scissors Samuel? Sam? Samson? Sampson? IDR. I was raised Catholic but that was a long time ago and I've long since left the church. I do recall that the chick sold him out for 30 silver pieces which is, I think? the same amount that Judas sold out Jesus. Not sure if this is correct from the story. The bible has some interesting things in it.
I love you girlfriend! Your awesome. LOL I love how you brought the comic hero element to the bible. I think the ultimate moral to the story of Samson and Delilah is obedience. Samson was dedicated to God before he was ever born, and there were two things he wasn't allowed to do...drink wine/eat grapes and cut his hair. Unfortunately, he (well she cut it for him) did both.
While I love my hair I have never thought of it as my crowning glory. I consider my love of life and my love of family my most important crowning glory. Hair is nice, but if it was on the bartering table for love or health I would give it up in a second. Take Care susie

I was a bit nervous about posting that - some people are very conservative with religion and I didn't want to offend anyone... but then I remembered the reviews of the Bible designed in anime/ manga fashion and I figured that it'd be alright. When I was in pre-school & kindergarten, I used to read the Bible story books for kids and I always thought of the saints and those people as being special super heros with special powers. I guess I watched too much Captain America or something
hair is great (especially when you've lost some) but its not necessary. there are far more important body parts that some people have to deal with losing. and when i want my crowning glory i just put on my fabulous new topper, hee, hee. It crowns me better than my bio hair would even if it all came back!
