Hello, I am new to the forum, so let me tell you all a bit about my story. I am 37 yo and have been dealing with hair loss since Dec 2012. Like many of you out there, I have been to several doctors and specialists and still have no answers. I have literally been tested for everything and the only thing that keeps coming back is low normal ferritin (18) and deficient vit d. So frustrating as I used to have glorious blonde hair, always fine but I had a ton of it; I also have no family history of androgentic hair loss. I have lost more than 50% of my hair and it is not only falling out, it appears to be breaking as well and I have issues with the burning and pulling sensation on my scalp. This has really taken a toll on my psyche and I am now in the market for supplemental hair because I am sick of feeling helpless and hating the way my hair looks. Long story short, I recently visited an endocrinologist who drew multiple labs which, yet again only revealed low normal ferritin and deficient vit d... He suggested that I take dexamethasone/ decadron which is an oral corticosteroid low dose twice a day for 3 months. Apparently he has had success with this treatment before and stated that if I have an underlying inflammatory condition leading to the loss that he has seen hair fall improve by 50% in 3 months. Needless to say, I was ecstatic! Finally, someone is being proactive and doing something about my hair loss and not just brushing me off. Unfortunely, it is 3 weeks into treatment and my hair loss is worse than ever! I have researched and found that oral steroids can actually lead to hair loss. I was curious if any of you out there have experienced this or have heard of oral steroids as hair loss treatment. I am tempted to stop treatment and begin my iron therapy again. Thoughts or comments would be appreciated!
