What causes hair loss in women and how can it be controlled?

    I've heard some hair loss in women can be expected with age but are there any natural nutrients that can be used to help or aid in controlling the problem? Its kinda sad to see ones tresses go down the drain after shampooing.

    There are so many causes to HL in women and that is why it is so difficult to treat! This article focuses on PCOS and HL, but I think it gives a good overview of HL in women in general; causes and common treatments, etc.

    I've tried a lot of products. But any product could not stop my hair loss. I would almost bald. Fortunately, one of my friend suggested Arganlife Anti-Hair Loss Shampoo. I had alot of bad experiences with anti-hair loss shapoos this reason I desperately began to use. But When i start using day by day, I was quite satisfied with the results.     Thanks for the tip Eleni. I was looking for a good natural shampoo. I'm using Nioxin right now and its' ok but my head feels so dry and itchy all the time. That can't be good. How long did it take you to see results from this ? I heard Argan oil itslef is great.

    I have also been using nioxin for the last 3 weeks. In that time my head has been soooo itchy. It hasn't helped at all either. I also have really bad dandruff since starting it. Last night I washed my hair with different shampoo and its no wear near as itchy. I don't think I'll bother with it anymore!

    There are supplements that can be used to alleviate the hair fall. However, most of them stop working when you stop taking them but choosing your diet carefully can also help a little.
    It may be shocking to few that before switching to new or expensive products to stop that hair fall what is important is to alter and refine the diet you are taking:

    • Carrots: Vitamin A-rich carrots provide excellent nourishment for the scalp. A healthy scalp ensures shiny Hair.

    • Prunes: If your hair suffers from dryness, thinning, stiffness, discoloration or hair fall, depleting reserves of iron might be the culprit.

    • Green peas: Contain a well-balanced amount of vitamins and minerals such as iron, zinc and B group vitamins. These are essential for maintaining healthy hair.

    • Oats: Contain Omega-6 fatty acids in particular are essential to maintain normal skin, hair growth and development.

    Hi, I was here in 2011 and desperate for help with my hair loss. It had been about 2 years of heavy shedding and my hair was falling faster and faster.. and the hairs that were growing at all were thin and brittle.

    I am back say that I tried a LOT of the things that were posted on this site and had little success. I could not afford the specialists for tests.. so I did my own research for months and concluded that it most of the hair loss is a result of toxins. and out of balance chemicals. The causes are varied

    Toxins from stress including low grade stress that rarely lets up.Emotional suppression, toxins from medications. Too much Sugar(breads..and yeast makers cause imbalances which lead to yeast, fungal overgrowths. Which can cause all sorts of issues but will show up in acne and oily scalp which leads to hair loss. Hormone imbalance is also due to these things.
    WIth the body being pumped full of toxins, in foods and air and products.. tiny bits from everyday things.. it throws everything out of whack. It can also cause absorbtion issues with essential nutrients that are necessary to grow healthy skin and hair.Imagine wha it is doing to your internal organs!

    So with this VITAL information.. I went at my hair loss from every angle of possibility and treated my life and body as if it were dying.. I cleansed the inside.. with nutrients and with therapy( counseling..) let out anything toxic Cried my eyes out A LOT andlet it out.. BEING strong was toxic! and sought blood tests to determine what I needed. I chose Vit C, garlic, Iron vit D slowly built up(no large doses.. and NO STRESS I went on natural compounded Hormone replacement therapy BUT I DID NOT take the dose prescribed. I took less as to NOT shock my system FOR ONE YEAR. Idid this despite my doctor complaining. I didnt' feel wonderful but my hair did not fall out. I AVOIDED all stress and toxins. NONE. ONLY JOY and rest was allowed for 3 months.. and NO toxins allowed.. ONLY good things in and toxins and emotions were to be let out NO exceptions! When I made progress and the scalp burning quit and the hair became fuller and stronger. I decided to keep going.

    I figured that it took awhile for my body to get in such bad (inside) condition.. that I owed it a good long break from all i had put it through.

    So far I have had success.. and I am feeling so much more energetic lately.

    I was devastated and had almost given up.

    Iknow that for some.. this will not be the cure... but it is an option if you have tried the dr's and other methods and had no success.

    My body was saying that by my skin issues and myhair loss that it was in crisis... I heeded the call.

    I am happy to say that I have 80-90% of my hair back. I do notice that My hair is still in a delicate phase.Meaning that if I introduce too much .. stress and or toxins together (diet, meds) etc that it will begin to fall again. I hoe to get fully well and be able to live normally again.

    My heart goes out to you.... hurt, brave courageous women. BE a princess for awhile... it does the body good.

    I believe it's an autoimmune issue if it's not caused by the thyroid. And yes curing it's not going to happen over night so you can't take Vitamin D, etc. for a week and expect hair to stop falling out. I was treated for SIBO with antibiotics and my hair, for the first time in years stopped falling out in handfuls. I was told I had IBS but now they've changed it to SIBO which is related to autoimmune diseases. The SIBO causes the bacteria to eat your nutrition before your body can absorb it. Right now my protein is low and hair needs protein to grow. I have food allergies also which took years before doctors would send me to an allergist.

    Toxicity and deficiency are the causes of disease. (Charlotte Gerson) So taking vitamins and eating gluten and/or sugar, is defeating the vitamins. Maybe you have undx'd celiac disease or SIBO which means you have trouble digesting carbs and starches.

    Too, I have a white substance that is covering my scalp..I scratch and it gets under my fingernails. Some say it's Candida, I don't know but the Nioxin helps with it some. My goal is to stop the white stuff and see if my hair gets better. My hair shaft is super thin too.

    Too much work
    Poor diet
    Over-exposure to the sun

    Here is what you can do to prevent hair fall

    Shampoo regularly. Remember, a CLEAN scalp is a HEALTHY SCALP.

    Brahmi amla oil also promotes hair growth.

    A high protein diet with plenty of fruits, green vegetables and dairy products is a must.

    Drink 10-12 glass of water everyday.

    Use a very mild shampoo and condition your hair at least twice a week. When you do, make sure you rinse out the conditioner thoroughly, otherwise residue build-up will cause your hair to look limp and dull.
